Disarmament and International Security Committee

Overview

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly and is responsible for dealing with issues related to global security, international peace, disarmament, and threats to stability between nations. DISEC focuses on reducing armed conflict, preventing the spread of weapons, addressing emerging security challenges, and promoting international cooperation to maintain peace and security. It serves as a platform where member states debate matters such as terrorism, nuclear proliferation, cyber warfare, military aggression, and the protection of critical infrastructure during conflicts. Under the agenda “Addressing Security Challenges to Petroleum and Energy Supply Chains During Armed Conflict,” delegates will discuss the growing threats posed to global oil and energy networks by wars, terrorism, piracy, cyberattacks, and geopolitical tensions, while exploring solutions to safeguard energy transportation routes, protect critical infrastructure, ensure economic stability, prevent resource-based conflicts, and strengthen international cooperation to maintain uninterrupted global energy supplies during times of armed conflict.
