Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport

Overview

The Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) is a global body established under UNESCO to promote the development of physical education, physical activity, and sport worldwide. CIGEPS works to strengthen international cooperation between governments and organizations in order to improve access to quality sports and physical education systems, especially for youth and developing nations. Its key functions include advising member states on sports policies, encouraging inclusivity and equal participation in sports, promoting ethical values in athletics, and supporting sustainable development through physical education. The committee also plays an important role in implementing international frameworks such as the Kazan Action Plan, which connects sport to education, health, gender equality, and peace-building. Through collaboration with governments, NGOs, and sporting institutions, CIGEPS aims to ensure that sport becomes a tool for social progress, international cooperation, and human development.
