Disarmament and International Security Committee

Overview

The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) is the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly responsible for addressing issues related to international peace, global security, disarmament, and emerging threats to stability among nations. DISEC serves as a platform for member states to debate matters such as arms control, warfare technologies, terrorism, cyber threats, nuclear proliferation, and military ethics while promoting diplomatic cooperation and conflict prevention. Under the agenda “Assessing the Consequences of Global Power Imbalances Driven by Military Automation and Technology,” delegates will examine how advancements in artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons, cyber warfare, surveillance systems, and military technologies have widened strategic inequalities between nations, potentially increasing geopolitical tensions, arms races, and risks to international security, while discussing solutions to regulate emerging military technologies, ensure ethical use of automation in warfare, prevent technological monopolies by powerful states, and maintain global stability through international cooperation and accountability.
