SPECPOL Special Political
and Decolonisation
Committee

Overview

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) is the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly and is responsible for addressing a wide range of political issues that affect international peace, security, decolonization, and humanitarian stability. The committee deals with matters such as peacekeeping operations, refugee concerns, political conflicts, self-determination, and the consequences of foreign involvement in sovereign states. SPECPOL serves as a platform for member states to debate politically sensitive global issues and propose diplomatic solutions aimed at maintaining international stability and cooperation. Under the agenda “Evaluating the Impact of Foreign Intervention on Conflict Escalation, Political Destabilisation and/or Humanitarian Crisis,” delegates will analyze how military, political, economic, or covert interventions by foreign states and organizations can intensify conflicts, weaken governments, increase civilian suffering, and contribute to humanitarian emergencies, while discussing the balance between national sovereignty, international responsibility, human rights protection, and the role of global powers in conflict resolution and peacebuilding.
